Thing 18

Here is my myspace page.It wasveryeasy to do. The first thing I had to do was get a bougus email adress and then went to the myspace homepage and created my profile. It is nothing spectacular because personally I do not like them. I feel like, even after explorig them today, they can be very dangeous and that students use them in a negative way. I have highshool students so I made up an alias becuase if they get to my page I do not want them to mistake me as their friend because of my age and my postion with them. i I believe parents should also be careful about their kids myspace page ad monitor them weekly if not daily. The things that I have seen on my space are very disturbing. I know there are some positive things that myspace can offer like keeping in touch with your friends and finding people but to me it is still negative in my mind but if you want to really connect with your kids this is the way to do it but let me remind you that there is a thin line that may be crossed with the information that is on these pages.

Thing 17

Where was all of this information when I was in school? I watched the Common Crafts video on podcast and once again they came through for me on explaining a topic perfectly in not alot of time. I still need to get an ipod or mp3 player so I can take full advantage of it. I also went through the tutorial on Del.cio.us. This is a great tool. This is something I would definelty have used when I was in school because so many times we are looking up the same topics and then once we have completed our paper all of our resources are lost. But now today students can save their information through del.cio.us and have all of their bookmarks organized. That is also a luxury too because usually you will bookmark important or helpful sites but they are not organized and you have to scroll through a huge list of them to get what you want but now you can tag them and have a total library of information that can be shared. Another great feature is being able to access it anywhere since you have to login. It really saves valauble time and it is easy to do.

Thing 16

I chose the igoogle page becuase I had google everything else it seems like. I did the aquarium because i like anything with water on it. The page is so relaxing. I also had another home page with weather and sports and current local news but I think it caused my computer to run slow. I could be wrong but that seemed to slow everything down. I signed up for stickits for the personal organizer. I liked the fact that you can recieve the reminders anywhere but I do not think that I am that organized or have enough technlogy to keepup with it because I do not have a phone that will allow me to look at the web and I am in the gym all day so I do not always have a computer at my side. I also toured remember the milk. Online calendars can be very useful to me for a class syllabus and for my schedule during the season. I have already decided that instead of handing out a newsletter every monday this year I will use the online calendar. Okay thats is enough for today. I have been reading and playing with thing 16 so long that my right eye is starting to twitch.

Thing 14

I just finished exploring the flowchart and the mind maps and they are both great organizers but I found that the mind maps gave you alot more freedom in choosing how you wanted to arrange your information. I set up an account with both flowchart and mindmiester. The upcoming project that will be for my athletes and students will be to create a mind map for being a good student. I also created a flow chart on Building a better post.

Thing 15

Wikis are cool. At first I thought that a wiki was just a source of information like an encyclopedia because that was part of the staff development a couple of years ago but I totally understand it now thanks to common craft. I really like that too because everytime I see one of those I totally understand whatever concept I needed to know about. But anyway I could use a wiki with my assistant coaches to talk about what our teams need or with the students to dicscover what excercises should be used for certian things. I like this and will use this in my everyday life and class. I like emails but it is true that you haveto go back and find emails and you do not have everything in front of you like a chart.

Thing 13

I signed up for Zoho writer. I can not honestly say that I will use it. To me it just seems like email or a regular word document. I know that I can get it anywhere and maybe that will illeviate me from email stuff to myself when I am at home. I guess it could also illeviate me from not being able to pull up certain documents in programs that are not compatible. (My husband loves Mac)

Thing 12

I tried the google calendar. I had a hard time signing in but after about 20 login attempts I figured out I was using the wrong password. :) But I liked the calendar. This is really going to come in handy during the season which is my busiest time of the year. I also toured the notebook and this is a great time saving and organizational tool. Many times throughout the season I will read articles on the web that I want to read to my kids. The problem is that often times when I go back to find them they are hard to find or time consuming but this program will allow me to save them as I read them. I tried the picasso photo but I think I have plenty of photo sites soI did not subscribe to this one.
